They will be assisted by an official scorer, two trained timers, and courtside administrator • Referee They are allowed to call fouls and violations whenever the rules are not followed correctly and must enforce all things clearly to keep the game moving on track. They must do so to the best of their abilities at all times and without any subjective judgement. Travels, double dribbles, fouls, moving screens, and other violations are all going to happen throughout the game. They are mostly relied upon to settle disputes and hand out technical fouls If a player or coach loses control of their emotions and behaves poorly. Crew Chief • The crew chief is the head official in basketball who is responsible for making the final decision in a game. In college basketball, the crew chief, or senior official, is not allowed to over-call the umpires or referees. The crew chief is the lead referee and acts as a captain for the group. Mainly, head coaches consult with the crew chief when they need an explanation of a call or have a complaint with a call. • The responsibilities of the crew chief are basically to have the final say on any call in a game. This is similar to the role of a coach to a coordinator as in both cases one answers to another. In this case, the other referees answer to the crew chief. Other than this they have the same responsibility as regular referees enforcing the game by calling things such as fouls or double dribbles. • Umpires, referees, and other sports officials preside over UMPIRE competitive athletic or sporting events to help maintain standards of play. They detect infractions and decide penalties according to the rules of the game. Umpires, referees, and other sports officials typically do the following: •Officiate sporting events, games, and competitions •Judge performances in sporting competitions to determine a winner •Inspect sports equipment and examine all participants to ensure safety •Keep track of event times, starting or stopping play when necessary •Signal participants and other officials when infractions occur or to regulate play or competition •Settle claims of infractions or complaints by participants •Enforce the rules of the game and assess penalties when necessary While officiating at sporting events, umpires, referees, and other sports officials must anticipate play and position themselves where they can best see the action, assess the situation, and identify any violations of the rules. REPLAY CENTER • On the court, there are 3 officials in total. The lead official is called the crew chief. The remaining two officials are known as referees. You can complain all you want about these NBA referees. They know that they too miss calls in a basketball game. • Every decision they make, they know half of the audience will like it. The other half won’t. Indeed, referees aren’t here in the NBA to make friends. They need to act like neutral. But when fans, players and coaches are continually pushing and pulling you this way and that, it becomes tough to keep check of your emotions. • There comes the NBA replay center to help officials decide if there is a tough call. They do it handsomely without disrupting the momentum of the game at all. Basketball scoring officials In a game of basketball there are three clear ways to score points. 1.If a shot is successfully scored from outside of the three-point line, three points are awarded. 2.If a shot is successfully scored from inside of the three-point line, two points are awarded. 3.If a team is awarded a technical foul then they will receive between one and During a competitive game of basketball three free shots. Each shot scored will be there are two referees, a scorekeeper, awarded with one point. timekeeper and a shot clock operator.
