Two types of AFFIX
•PREFIX- an affix that is
added before a rootword.
•SUFFIX – an affix added
after a rootword.

•It is an idea or quality that a
word makes in addition to its
meaning. It can be positive or
negative.
CONNOTATION
1. She is a snake. (Snake symbolizes being a
traitor.)
2. Pen is mightier than the sword. (Pen
symbolizes journalism.)
3. I wish each one of us could hold a dove in
our hearts. (Dove symbolizes peace.)
DENOTATION
•It is the specific, exact, and
concrete meaning of a word.
This is the meaning you will
find in the dictionary.
DENOTATION
1. I could still remember the flocks of dove
flying in the sky.
2. I love to write using a pen in my notebook.

3. I saw a dead snake on the road.


DIRECTION: Identify the different meanings of content specific words-
connotation or denotation. Say C if the sentence expresses
CONNOTATION and D if the sentence expresses DENOTATION.
