BBC National radio
The national radio is a broadcast across the whole of the UK, BBC stands for British broadcast
corporation.
The BBC was founded on 18th of October 1922.
The residents of the UK pay an annual fee of £159 for a color license and £53.50 for a non color
license
The service provides national radio stations covering the majority of musical genres, as well as
local radio stations covering local news, affairs and interests. It also oversees online audio content .
The BBC national radio stations are BBC radio 1, BBC radio 2, BBC radio 3, BBC radio 4, BBC
radio 5 live, BBC radio 5 sports extra, BBC radio 6 music. This means that anyone in the country
can access these stations from wherever they may live.
BBC Regional and local Radio
Local BBC radio stations only serve local communities and these stations work in the same exact way as
the national radio and by the local radio station only doing the news on local communities can also mean
something to the people in the area.
The difference between BBC regional and local is that regional covers a certain region such as Scotland
and Wales, whereas local radio stations are for a particular area, for example Derby, Bristol and sheffield
You can only listen to local or regional BBC stations if you are in these regions or local areas.
National Commercial radio
The community radio stations serve the public and the local community.
They are usually run by volunteers and are often charity.
They are interactive and focus on local problems
Target audience
The target audience is a specific group of people based off demographics which determine
what can categorise them and align them to radio station in this instance that they are
interested in such as a chat radio station or mostly music ones. Just because products have a
specific target audience does not mean that other people will not like the product too.

BBC Radio 1 has 34 Djs that work for the station for example Sara cox.
Radio 1 also runs two online streams Radio 1 Dance, dedicated to dance music; and Radio 1 Relax, dedicated to
chill-out music.
The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of
contemporary music and speech. Its target audience is 15-29 years old and it should also provide some
programming for younger teenagers. BBC Radio 1 lost nearly half a million listeners in the first quarter of 2022,
new figures show. The flagship channel enjoyed an average weekly audience of 7.7 million in the three months
to April 3, down 491,000 from 8.2 million in the final quarter of 2021, according to research body Rajar. Their
slogans “where it begins” and first aired on 30th December 1967.

BBC radio one have had a collective total of 51 DJs such as Chris Stark, Scott Mills and
Jimmy Young.
The first dj for BBC radio one was Tony Blackburn and aired on the first ever radio one
broadcast in 1967, launching the station with his new programme Daily Disc Delivery with
Robin Scott.

BBC Radio One has a pre planned schedule for each day to air throughout the day to their
audience.
Due to the youth-oriented nature, BBC radio one uses a broad range of current and potential
hits, including independent/alternative, hip hop, rock, dance/electronica and pop.
This makes the radio station stand out from other popular radio stations.

The content on the show includes Yesterday's Quiz and the Ten Minute Takeover, alongside Game
of Phones and Unpopular Opinions. In March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Radio 1
Breakfast was moved to 7am until 11am.

The content of the BBC radio 1 breakfast show contains popular pop hits and current top

Target Audience
BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Shows target audience is for people aged 15-29 year olds.
However they have received requests from the audience to include more music.
Scheduling
Radio X’s target audience is males between the ages of 25 to 44 years old
This because their content is to attract a more mature audience and play more outdated songs
instead of newer songs.
