Ashley
Hill
BBC National radio

The national radio is a broadcast across the whole of the UK, BBC stands for British broadcast
corporation.
The BBC was founded on 18th of October 1922.
The residents of the UK pay an annual fee of £159 for a color license and £53.50 for a non color
license
The service provides national radio stations covering the majority of musical genres, as well as
local radio stations covering local news, affairs and interests. It also oversees online audio content .
The BBC national radio stations are BBC radio 1, BBC radio 2, BBC radio 3, BBC radio 4, BBC
radio 5 live, BBC radio 5 sports extra, BBC radio 6 music. This means that anyone in the country
can access these stations from wherever they may live.
BBC Regional and local Radio

Local BBC radio stations only serve local communities and these stations work in the same exact way as
the national radio and by the local radio station only doing the news on local communities can also mean
something to the people in the area.
The difference between BBC regional and local is that regional covers a certain region such as Scotland
and Wales, whereas local radio stations are for a particular area, for example Derby, Bristol and sheffield
You can only listen to local or regional BBC stations if you are in these regions or local areas.
National Commercial radio

Commercial radio stations make money by selling advertising. Having a large

listening audience leads to more advertisers. National commercial radio stations have
more freedom in what they can play as they are funded by advertisements and
sponsorships.
Local Commercial Radio

It is aimed at people from a specific area

Paid by advertisement and sponsorships which help fund the materials needed to broadcast
Its normally owned by a bigger station and is a like a sister station to one of the bigger
national stations and that in all is owned by a big company
Community radio

The community radio stations serve the public and the local community.
They are usually run by volunteers and are often charity.
They are interactive and focus on local problems
Target audience

The target audience is a specific group of people based off demographics which determine
what can categorise them and align them to radio station in this instance that they are
interested in such as a chat radio station or mostly music ones. Just because products have a
specific target audience does not mean that other people will not like the product too.
Schedule

Scheduling is a specific time a programme is broadcasted, it is the time a programme can

air. For example the content of a breakfast radio show, could potentially have a younger
audience listening, the content has to be suitable for everybody at that time, however
scheduling after 9PM when younger will be asleep therefore the content can be more
mature
