Introduction
Speech recognition is a field of Artificial Intelligence that deals with the
capability of software or any device that decodes the voice (analog
signal) that is spoken in the natural language converts it into Digital
Language (digital signal ) according to the specified method or
technology.

Example: Just Like Chatbots, Siri, Alexa, and Cortona.

History of Speech Recognition
• The invention of digital devices, vast development and divergence took place, people were adopting them.
1950
• In 1952, bell laboratories designed the system named Audrey which could recognize the numbers by
speaking aloud.
1952 • After that IBM introduced another system named Showbox which could be able to respond the 16 English
words
• In 1970 US Department of Defense (DARPA) launched the System name Harpy with speech understanding
1970 program, this system was capable to understand 1000 words with three-year-old vocabulary

• In 80s Hidden Markov Method was proposed. It can understand sound patterns
1980

• In an era of the 90s Dragon Dictate software was used in Personal Computers.
1990

• In 2001 Google launched the google voice search. It has 230 million words that were included in the voice
2001 search engine.

• From 2010 2010 to 2020 and onwards, we found massive developments in speech recognition. Many
2010- people nowadays use speech recognition in their daily life, for example, if they want to send messages,

Features

There are so many voice recognition software applications and smart devices
that have been launched to facilitate the users at home, offices, schools, and
roads. Speech recognition applications such as ”Text editor though voice”.

It facilitates disabled persons whenever they are not able to use gadgets
physically by hand. It increases the flexibility between machines and humans.

It helps people to control home appliances to make homes smart.

Development in Software Applications:

• According to the researcher, Abu Ali Nissan and et al. that deep learning and
machine plays important role in the development of Speech Recognition based
software applications. This research study explored the deep literature that
about the development of Speech Recognition Applications. Also focused on
the methods that were used in the development of Speech Recognition
Application Such as Hidden Markov Model(HMM) and Linear Predictive
Coding (LPC)
• Far-Field automatic voice recognition is a mechanism to recognize speech from
a distance by using microphones, therefore, this search study proposed the
algorithms that were designed to improve the accuracy in speech because home
assistants were affected due to distortion in the voice. they did not record a
clear voice therefore, mostly they faced difficulty recognizing the voice.
