GENDER
THEORIES
Gender theories are theories
that attempt to explain the
differences between men
and women, and how
gender roles are formed and
maintained in society.
These theories can be
divided into two main
categories: essentialist
theories and social
constructionist theories.
Essentialist theories view gender
as a fixed, innate characteristic
that is determined by biological
factors, while social constructionist
theories view gender as a socially
constructed concept that is shaped
by culture and society.
MARXISM AND
HEGEMONY
Marxism is political and economic
theory that was developed by Karl
Marx in the 19th century. It is based on
the idea that the means of production
should be owned and controlled by the
working class, and that the working
class should be able to benefit from the
profits of their labor.
Hegemony is a concept that was
developed by Antonio Gramsci in the
early 20th century. It is the idea that is
dominant group in society can maintain
its power and influence by controlling
the ideas and beliefs of the subordinate
groups
Marxism and hegemony are closely related in
that both theories focus on the power dynamics
between different social classes. Marxism
argues that the working class should be able to
benefits from the profits of their labor, while
Hegemony argues that the dominant group can
maintain its power and influence by
controlling the ideas and beliefs of the
subordinate groups
