(Mobile Equipment
Personnel Interface)
Purpose
• This training is intended to educate all employees about
hazards and controls associated with MEPI: Mobile
Equipment Personnel Interface (man & machine interface).

• This is a mandatory training session for all contractor


personnel (inc subcontractor and rental company
employees) to increase general awareness of the hazards
involved in construction vehicles & equipment operations
and the danger to people in proximity.

• All personnel must work in a safe and consistent manner


throughout all NEOM Projects construction sites.

Application

Contractor MEPI training completed at new employee


induction and thereafter refresher training quarterly.

Applies to all contractor direct hire, subcontractor and


rental employees.

Failure to follow the rules could result in contractors


asking employees who work unsafely to leave
NEOM Projects worksites.

Both personnel on foot and operators of equipment


and vehicles have a responsibility to temporarily stop
any unsafe work and report the situation safe.

Equipment Blind Spots
Equipment Blind Spots
Blind Spots are the areas near and around vehicles and
construction plant and equipment, where the operator
can’t view or see the objects, person or hazards.
This can lead to accidents, injuries, loss and damage.

See the following Blind Spot examples.

Contractors should use actual equipment blind spots information


from manufacturers for the vehicles and equipment they have.

Do not place yourself in a position where
you cannot be seen by the vehicle operator.

Remain outside the 10meter radius from all


equipment.

Keep constant eye contact with vehicles

Stop work immediately if workers on foot enter your work


zone.
Report unsafe behaviors.
Always maintain eye contact with nearby workers on foot.
Never wear headphones.
Never use mobile telephones or smart phones while driving or
operating equipment or vehicles.
Never use curtains or other materials on windows.
Pre-Start Briefings
Contractors to conduct practical
‘Blind Spot’ session
• Have several different types of equipment parked with the
engines turned off.

• At least one type of equipment should be a dump truck.

• Have each attendee take a turn sitting in the driver/operator seat


while someone else stands behind to the rear of the equipment
moving back and forth in and out of the blind spot.

• Ask the participant in the cab when he can see the Deadman
and when he can’t.

• All employees have a responsibility for their own safety
• Stay out of area with moving equipment & vehicles
• Drivers and operators to stop working if people come into their work
zone.
• Warn others who may be in harms way
• Stop unsafe work
• Report unsafe behaviors
• Notify person in charge of any hazards
• Always wear proper PPE
• such as reflective vest Contractors to ensure

Supervisor’s Responsibilities
• Ensure all necessary plan & procedures are being
implemented.

• Equipment's accessories ( Back view mirrors, Reverse


Alarm etc) are in working condition.

• Equipment operator must have valid certificates/ licenses


/ training.

• Ensure JHA & Pre task briefings are completed.


Supervisor’s Responsibilities
• Ensure all necessary precautions are in place.

• Traffic Controllers & Barriers are in place.

• Ensure “ALL” personal involved in traffic


management are trained and competent.

• Coordination and cooperation with nearby work


activities.
Consequences

• Violations of safety rules can result in


removal from all NEOM Projects
worksites.

• This applies to all Workers including


Craft, Labour, Supervisors, Engineers &
Managers.
