The document summarizes the Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle, which is the light-independent stage of photosynthesis. It occurs in three stages: 1) harvesting radiant energy through chlorophyll absorption of sunlight, 2) converting the energy to chemical energy through light-dependent reactions, and 3) storing the energy as glucose through the Calvin-Benson cycle of light-independent reactions in the chloroplast stroma. The Calvin cycle itself proceeds in three phases: carbon fixation, reduction, and regeneration of ribulose to restart the cycle.

-is a complex process that can be divided into two or more
stages, such light-dependent and light-independent reactions. The three-stage model of photosynthesis starts with absorption of sunlight and ends in the production of glucose. 3 STAGES OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS: 1. Harvesting Radiant Energy -The first step of photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells. Light photons are absorbed by a pigment called chlorophyll, which is abundant in the thylakoid membrane of each chloroplast. Plants take in carbon dioxide through their stomata (microscopic openings in tissue) for use in photosynthesis. Plants transpire and replenish oxygen in the air and ocean. 2. Converting Radiant Energy - After radiant energy from sunlight is absorbed, the plant converts light energy into a usable form of chemical energy to fuel the plant’s cells. - light dependent reaction 3. Storing Radiant Energy -The last stage of the photosynthesis process is known as the Calvin-Benson cycle (light independent), in which the plant uses atmospheric carbon dioxide and water from soil to convert ATP and NADPH. The chemical reactions that make up the Calvin-Benson cycle occur in the stroma of the chloroplast. LIGHT INDEPENDENT REACTION -the chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and other compounds into glucose -occurs in the stroma, the fluid-filled area of a chloroplast outside the thylakoid membranes. Phases of the Calvin Cycle PHASE 1: CARBON FIXATION PHASE 2: REDUCTION PHASE 3: REGENERATION OF RIBULOSE • The final step in the Calvin cycle of photosynthesis, where energy and sugar interact to form the molecule RuBP, allowing the cycle to start again.
