 HISTORY
The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an
international association football competition contested by the senior men's
national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body

 Founded In Paris, France on May 21,


1904.

 First International Football Federation that was


organized in Europe in that time.

 Original President was Robert Guerin of France.

 20 World Cup tournaments have been won by eight national teams.
 Brazil have won five times, and they are the only team to have played in
every tournament.
 The other World Cup winners are Germany and Italy, with four titles each.
 Argentina and inaugural winner Uruguay, with two titles each
 England, France, and Spain, with one title each.
AWARDS

 At the end of each World Cup, awards are presented to the players and teams for
accomplishments other than their final team positions in the tournament. There
are currently six awards:
 The Golden Ball (for the best player)
 The Golden Boot or Golden Shoe( for the top goal scorer)
 The Golden Glove Award (formerly the Yashin Award) for the best goalkeeper.
 The Best Young Player Award (for the best player aged 21 or younger)
 The FIFA Fair Play Trophy (for the team with the best record of fair play)
 The Most Entertaining Team (for the team that has entertained the public the most
during the World Cup)
 An All-Star Team (consisting of the best players of the tournament )

 Three players share the record for playing in the most World Cups. All played in
five tournaments.
• Mexico's Antonio Carbajal (1950–1966)
• Germany's Lothar Matthaus (1982–1998)
• Rafael Marquez (2002-2018)
 Matthaus has played the most World Cup matches overall, with 25 appearances.

FIFA World Cup 2018 - 21th

from June 14 to July 15, 2018. Russia
for the first time in its history, will be
the host country of the world football
championship, in addition, it will be
held for the first time in Eastern
Europe. It is also the first time the
FIFA World Cup will be held in the
territory of two continents - Europe
and Asia for the first time in the
territory of the former Soviet Union.
The Championship is scheduled for
12 stadiums in 11 cities of Russia.

The choice of venue
 March 18, 2009 FIFA announced that for
Championships 2018/2022's adopted 9 proposals
received: Australia, England, Indonesia, Mexico,
Russia, the USA, Japan, Portugal and Spain (joint bid),
Belgium and the Netherlands (joint application).

 December 16, 2009 it was announced that the


organizing committee for the support of the nomination
of Russia as a country - the applicant for the right to
host the FIFA World Cup 2018/2022's headed Igor
Shuvalov.

 December 2, 2010 in Zurich, was read the name of the


host country of the World Cup: it was Russia. Following
a vote, Russia won in the second round with more than
half of the votes.

World Cup will be attended by 32
teams. The draw for the qualifying
tournament was held at the
Constantine Palace in St.
Petersburg July 25, 2015, and the
final tournament - in December
2017 at the Mariinsky Theatre.

 Yekaterinburg (Asian) cluster
Stadiums
 The opening match and the final will be held in Moscow in "Luzhniki". One of the semi-final matches
will be played in St. Petersburg, and the other - in Moscow.
