3 METHODS OF SOLVING LINEAR
EQUATIONS
GRAPHICAL
METHOD
How do you solve using this method?
Step 1: You round off/up to the closest number for the first equation
Step 2: You round off/up to the closet number for the second equation
Step 3: Identify the factors/value of the given using the graph you just used
Graphical Method has 3 types of Solutions

To solve a system of equations using the graphical

method, plot the lines representing each equation
on a coordinate plane and find the point where they
intersect. This point represents the solution to the
system of equations.
CONSISTENT OR UNIQUE/INFINITE
The Unique and Infinite solution only applies if the lines are INTERSECTING.
SOLUTION
INCONSISTENT/NO
The Unique and Infinite solution only applies if the lines are PARRALEL.

SUBSITUTION
How do you METHOD
solve using this method?
The substitution method involves substituting the expression of one variable from one equation into
the other equation. By simplifying and solving the resulting equation, you can find the values of the
variables in the system of equations.
Example:
Equation 1: 2x + y = 5 Equation 2: x - 3y = 7
Solving Equation 1 for "x", we get x = (5 - y)/2.
Substituting this expression for "x" into Equation 2, we have (5 -
y)/2 - 3y = 7.
Simplifying the equation, we find y = -9/7.
Substituting this value of "y" back into Equation 1, we have 2x +
(-9/7) = 5.
Simplifying further, we get 2x = 22/7.
Therefore, the solution is x = 22/7 and y = -9/7.
ELIMINATION
METHOD
It is a technique used in graphing to solve a system of linear
equations. It involves eliminating one variable from the system
by adding or subtracting the equations together.

Example:
Step 1: Write down the system of equations

Step 2. Multiply one or both equations by suitable numbers so that when you
add or subtract them, one variable will cancel out.

Step 3. Add or subtract the equations to eliminate one variable

Step 4. Solve the resulting equation for the remaining variable. Divide both
sides by the coefficient of the variable to find the value.
