CHARACTERIZATION
LEARNERS
 The pupils who were assessed as non-readers were always absent.
 Parents were sending their children to the farm for agricultural work.
 Due to increasing absences and decreasing contact time, learners were
unable to read.
 Learners lost their love for reading and learning due to playing games in
cellphone.
 Distance from home to school ( 3-5 kms. from home to school.)
 Negative attitude towards education due to economic status and
educational attainment of the parents.
TEACHERS
 Teachers took most of their time accomplishing reports and paper
works.
 Contact time has been decreased due to extra curricular activities of
teachers and learners.( Sports, Cultural .Scouting & etc.
 One Teacher is handling multi - grade classes.( Grades 1 & 2)
 Teachers use traditional method of teaching( chalk talk method) that
do not encourage the interest of the learners.
 Teachers in grades 1to 3 need to undergo seminar in remedial
reading.
MATERIALS, FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT
 Need more reading materials ( Grades 1-3 )
 Insufficient supply of reading materials in the library
 Mini LRC is not functional(To-og Tiglawa ES,Igcadlum PS,
Igcores ES)
ICT ENVIRONMENT
 No internet access
 Few teachers are well versed in using computers and laptops
ASSESSMENT
 Need Unified Reading Assessment Tool to find out non-
readers.
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
 Less supervision of school head due to priority in preparation
of reports, liquidation of MOOE, SBFP and other related
works with other agencies.
COMMUNITY, INDUSTRY RELEVANCE AND
PARNTERSHIP
 Limited financial support from the people in the community
and other stakeholders due to their economic status.
INTERVENTIONS
 Encourage School Heads and Teachers for Home Visitations.
 Capacitate School Heads for Technical Assistance in the
implementation of their projects in order to solve their non-readers.
 Advise School Heads to tap the NGO ( Child Initiative ) for financial
assistance to be given to non-readers for instructional materials.
 Intensify school visitations to schools with high number of non-
readers.
 Recommend grades1-3 teachers to attend seminars in district,
division and regional training in remedial reading.
