MATH PRAYER

Lord, we thank you a hundredfold for the

infinite love and care that you have given
us. May we, in return, multiply it with love
and respect and add more faith. Subtract
the wordly desires and evil works in our
minds and hearts and divide your given
talents to all of us. To sum it all, may we
be united as one in your family. Amen.

To use the table of trigonometric values, locate the angle
on the first column and find the specific trigonometric
ratio of the given angle on the next columns. For the
reciprocal trigonometric value, just divide 1 by the value
of its equivalent basic trigonometric ratio.

Examples:
1. Find the following trigonometric ratio using the table
of trigonometric ratio.

a. sine 50° b. cos 12° c. tan 70°

Practice Exercises
Use your calculator or a trigonometric table to find each ratio to
the nearest thousandth.

TRIGONOMETRIC
RATIOS OF
SPECIAL ANGLES
Recall that there are two special right triangles; 30°-60°-90°
triangle and the 45°-45°-90° triangle with the following
properties:

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Determine the exact value of θ, x and y in the given
figure. Then find the six trigonometric ratios of the given
angles.

Solution:
First solve for θ,
30°
30° + 90° + θ = 180°
θ = 180 – 120 10
x
θ = 60°
=5
Solving for x and y using the
properties of 30° – 60° – 90° triangle: θ
y =5
Or solving for x and y using the exact trigonometric ratios:
The cosine and secant ratios involve the sides labeled x
and 10 so use the cosine ratio for convenience.

x 10

60°
y
The sine and cosecant ratios involve the sides
labeled y and 10 so use sine ratio for
convenience.

30°
10

60°
y =5
Then the six trigonometric ratios of 30° in the given
triangle are:

30°
And the six trigonometric ratios of 60° are:
