The document discusses the effects of interactions among organisms in their environment, providing examples of how interactions between egret and carabao, cows and grass, locusts and plants, worms and humans, and tarsiers and trees can impact the organisms and environment. The interactions can be beneficial, harmful, or have no effect, and an overpopulation of one organism can harm others by competing for resources.

Effects of the Interactions
among Organisms in their Environment At the end of this module, you are expected to:
Describe the effects of the interactions among
organisms in their environment. The egret eats the flies and parasitic insects on the carabao. What is the effect of this interaction to the egret? The egret has food to eat while the carabao is protected from parasitic insects. The interaction is beneficial to both animals. There are too many cows in the grass field. Will the grass be enough for all the animals to eat throughout the year? Why? The grass is not enough for all the cows since there are too many of them. They have to compete for space and for food. They might look for another place where there is grass to eat. This interaction has affected the behavior of the sheep. The grass in the area is also affected. They will be consumed by the sheep. A group of locusts ate up all the plants in the field. How will this affect the plants, the herbivores or plant eaters and the farmers in the area? The leaves are damaged and consumed. They are eaten up by the locusts. This also affects the food supply not only for the herbivores but also to humans who are growing crops. The herbivores will not have food to eat which may result to a decrease of their number. It might also force them to transfer or migrate to another place where there are plants to eat. This kind of interaction can cause a change in the environment. It has a beneficial effect to the locusts but harmful to the plants, herbivores and humans There are worms inside the intestine of humans. Is this interaction harmful to humans? Why? Worms are found in the human’s intestine. One cause of having worms in the intestines is by eating and drinking unsanitary food and water. The man is harmed while the worms are benefited. There are tarsiers found in our country. They live in trees. Are the trees affected in this interaction? There are Tarsiers in Baguio. Tarsiers live in trees. In the interaction between the tree and the tarsier, the tarsier is benefited for it has a place to live while the tree is not affected. Organisms like plants and animals living in a particular place interact with one another in order to satisfy their needs. They also interact with the non-living things found in the environment like water, land, air and sunlight. Plants and animals need food, shelter, water and space in order to live. They also need protection and support. Most of the time, when they interact, they affect one another as well as the non-living things in their environment. The effect among the organisms whether plants or animals may be beneficial or harmful. In some cases, one organism is not affected by the interaction among them. When the population of plants or animals compete for their needs, the stronger organisms win and cause the losing organisms to find other ways of getting their needs. If their needs are not met, they either decrease in number or die. Are there any questions?
