AIM
“EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE
OF A G+3 BUILDING”
INTRODUCTION

Earthquakes are known to have tremendous potential in causing a devastating impact

on the built environment and human life. In order to enable tall buildings to withstand
those lateral forces, an earthquake and wind analysis must be done and incorporated into the
final construction of the building. Designs per IS 13920-2016 satisfy all provisions of IS 456-
2000 and IS 13920-2016 for beams and columns (Refer to D8.E. Indian Codes - Concrete
Design per IS 456).
The design and analysis of the building with RCC shear wall, steel plate shear wall and
composite shear wall is carried out using software STAAD.Pro. Effect of varying thickness of
shear panels and comparison of the results of story drift and story shear is presented. The
main goal of this project is to use STAAD Pro to study and design a multi-story structure [G +
3 (3-dimensional frame)].
OBJECTIVE

 To model a G+3 building using BIM

 To do an earthquake resistance design of a G+3 building
 To compare the design using IS-456 and IS-13920
 To compare the cost estimation of IS-456 and IS-13920
