GREETING
Greeting is an action of communication in which human being
intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show
attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship or social status
between individuals or groups of people coming in contact with
each other. While greeting customs are highly culture and
situation-specific and may change within a culture depending on
social status and relationships, they exist in all know human
cultures.

DIRECT GREETING
A: Chào em.
Hello, little sister.
B: Em chào chị Nhi.
I say hello to you, sister Nhi.
INDIRECT GREETING
Mừng mẹ đã về.
Congratulations on coming
back, mom.
THE TRADITIONAL GREETING OF
VIETNAMESE
The traditional greeting of the
Vietnamese is to wrap your arms in
front of your chest and your head in
front of the other person. In
Vietnam, someone who is smaller
in position or age will greet first,
show humility, listen and respect
the other person. Next, the other
person, the older one, will greet in
return.

In USA, people
usually hug when
saying “Hello”. But
sometimes, it’s a
handshake when you
meet someone
IN EUROPE
In Europe: France, Dutch,
Italy, Spain. When people
meet, they kiss each other on
one cheek or handshake. If you
are a close friend or relative,
people typically greet each
other by kissing on the cheek
three times, alternately,
starting with the right.
IN JAPAN
In Japan, people greet each other
by bowing.
A bow can ranges from a small
nod of the head to a deep bend at
the waist. A deeper, longer bow
indicates respect and conversely
a small nod with the head is
casual and informal.

• People in difference countries greet each other in difference ways
because of cultural differences, such as difference language, difference
habits,, difference customs, and so on.
• Though we have difference cultures and custom, we should learn to
respect each other and live in peace and harmony.
