Self Organizing Network
INTRODUCTION TO SON
It is part of 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) to improve operation and maintenance. With LTE/SON the NECs hybrid management architecture provide enhance robustness and scalability in network. SON reduces the installation and management cost by self configuration and self optimization.
OPERATION BENEFITS
Reduced capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) of complex radio access networks (RAN). Wireless operator spent its part of total revenue 17% on CAPEX on engineering And installation services. 24% on network OPEX O&M, training, power, site rental etc.
SELF CONFIGURATION
It use to prevent more human intervention in network element process. Create logical association with the network and establish the necessary security context. Here some technologies such as DHCP,SIM based security parameters could be used. Self testing configuration files download by configuration server by using NETCONFIG protocol.
SELF OPTIMIZATION
It is done for maximum network performance based on regional characteristics of RF propagation, traffic and user experiance (UE) mobility in effective service area. This Couse faster problem detection and solving.
SELF OPTIMIZATION
during the self optimization we do: Neighbor list optimization (dynamically updated). Coverage and capacity optimization by tilting adjusting antenna & pilot power among related cells. Mobility robustness optimization. Mobility load balancing optimization.
Automated fault identification: equipment fault detection by network log and UE service degradation. Cell outage compensation: recovery actions such as: fall back to previous software or switching to backup units.
Here we use simulator for qualitative analysis of network. After simulating we plan the better network configuration for better quality to UE.
ENERGY SAVING
Switching on/off the nodes. Off node switched on when needed; as per UE service requirement.
STANDARDIZATION STATUS
3GPP introduced Son items in its standardization path for LTE deployment. The SA5 working group specification: Self establishment of enodeB Automatic neighbor relation
CONCLUSION
LTE/SON allow wireless operators to implement network with robustness, better performance and energy efficient at lower cost. Decreases human intervention in network management.
