INTRODUCTION to FUEL POLICY
The Company Fuel policy complies with DGCA CAR Section 8, series O, part II,
Amount of useable Fuel is based on the following data -
a) Current Aircraft Specific Data from a Fuel Consumption Monitoring System, for which data is available or
b) if a) the above is not available, then data provided by the aircraft manufacturer and Operating conditions below
Operating Conditions- these are adequate fuel quantity to cover, trip, contingency, alternate, reserve and taxi shall
be loaded prior to departure taking into account:
Aeroplane Mass, NOTAMS, Meteorological Conditions, ATC Restrictions and Delays, effects of Deferred
Maintenance Items and/or configuration deviations,Abnormals and any other conditions which may delay the
landing of the airplane or increase fuel consumption
a) Taxi & APU Fuel: The Amount of fuel expected to be consumed before take-off taking into account local
conditions at the Departure aerodrome and APU Fuel Consumption.

Variable Taxi Fuel based on Station wise Taxi out time is Factored

b) Trip Fuel: Amount of Fuel required to enable the aircraft to fly from departure aerodrome or the point of
in-flight re planning until landing at the destination aerodrome taking into account the Operating
conditions in the previous slide.

NOTE 1: Fuel caters for Appropriate SID and/or STAR as applicable

NOTE 2: The Trip Fuel is calculated at Advisory Cost Index or LRC or Fixed Mach No. as applicable and
reflected in the OFP
c) CONTINGENCY FUEL
● The amount of fuel required to compensate for Unforeseen factors.
● It shall be 5% of planned Trip fuel OR of the fuel required from a point of inflight replanning based on the
consumption rate used to plan the trip fuel.
● Shall not be Lower than the amount required to fly for 5 mins at holding speed at 1500 ft above destination,
in standard conditions.
● Unforeseen factors are those which can impact fuel consumption at the destination aerodrome.
d) Destination Alternate fuel

Which shall be :

1) Where one destination alternate aerodrome is required

2) Where two alternate aerodromes are required
3) Where a flight without a destination alternate aerodrome
4) Where the aerodrome of intended landing is an Isolated Aerodrome.

e) Final Reserve Fuel

Which shall be:
● The amount of fuel calculated using the estimated mass on landing at the destination alternate
aerodrome or destination aerodrome (no destination alternate). To fly 30 mins at holding speed at 1500
ft above aerodrome elevation in standard conditions.
f) ADDITIONAL FUEL
Which shall be the supplementary fuel required if (b) (c) (d) and (e) is not sufficient to:

1) Allow the aeroplane to descend as necessary and proceed to an alternate aerodrome in the event of engine
failure or loss of pressurisation, whichever required the greater amount of fuel, based on the assumption
that such a failure occurs at the most critical point along the route.
- Fly for 15 mins at holding speed at 1500 ft above aerodrome elevation in standard conditions and make an
approach and landing.
1) Allow an aeroplane in EDTO to comply with EDTO critical fuel scenario as established by DGCA.
2) Meet additional requirements not covered above.

g) DISCRETIONARY FUEL
● Which shall be the extra amount of fuel to be carried at the discretion of the pilot in command.
● In all cases of discretionary fuel specific justification must be mentioned in the flight plan.
● Following Code format is to be used for this purpose in flight plan.
Captain Request (CPT) Economic Tankering (ETK) Company Advice for extra uplift other
than economic Tankering (CAD)

Destination Weather (WXD) Fuel Already on Board (FOB) Expected ATC Delay (ATC)
FUEL CONSERVATION AND ECONOMY
Fuel economy is of utmost importance to airlines as fuel expenses are approx 40% of the company’s total
expenditure.

Few Fuel conservation and efficiency measures are as below:

● Selection of Closer Alternates
● Extra Fuel (Discretionary) Ful Uplift
● Use of GPU- Delay APU Start
● Take-off Flap Settings
● Thrust Reduction & Acceleration Altitude
● Landing Flap Settings
● Idle Reverse on Landing
● Single Engine Taxi
