On
Some causes of local or relative sea level rise—when the waters rise
relative to one particular place—are related to climate change, while
others are related to the land itself sinking or lifting.
Rising seas threaten a series of disasters. And it’s important to point out
that sea level rise can have vastly uneven effects, not only because
water levels are rising faster in some places, but because some
communities are more vulnerable to political and economic instability.
Without help, inequality will be worsened in areas that have the least
resources to adapt.
