Context

• The performing arts is an every changing industry.


From traditional forms of live theatre to media in film,
television and online content there are many
opportunities for emerging artists.

• In this assignment you will be given the opportunity


to explore the industry you may work in one day.

• You will investigate developments in live, and recorded


performance work, as well as the structure of the
industry. You will explore different types of
employment, and consider how future developments in
the industry may provide potential opportunities for the
future.
The Brief
•As someone aspiring to a career in the performing arts you will take part in group and
individual research activities to gain an understanding of the main issues and
opportunities in the performing arts industry and the freelance world.
•You will consider how these issues and opportunities affect the future of the industry in
relation to your own practice and potential career.
•Your work should focus on your own interests and specialism(s). For example, you might
concentrate on acting, dance or musical theatre performance. You might however focus a
specific area such as ballet, community theatre or variety performance.
•Your work for this unit will be an interactive timeline with minimum of 10 points, a
professional presentation with voice over of 10 – 12 mins, and a written report of 750
words (+ or – 10%).
•You are free to use diagrams, pictures, links to audio or video recordings etc. to illustrate
your work if you wish.
•You should carefully reference all sources used to create your work.
