Test and measurement and Evaluation

 Define Test, Measurements and Evaluation.

 Importance of Test, Measurements and Evaluation in
Sports.
 Calculation
of BMI, Waist – Hip Ratio, Skin fold
measurement (3-site)
 Somato Types (Endomorphy, Mesomorphy & Ectomorphy)
 Classification of Test in Physical Education and Sports.
 Measurements of health-related fitness
Flow chart
What is Test
Test may be defined as tool a question and set of question, an examination which is used to
measure a particular characteristics of an individual or a group of individuals
Test is the form of questioning or measuring tool used to access the status of ones skill
knowledge attitude and fitness
Test is an instrument or activity used to accumulate data on a persons ability to perform a
specified task
Measurement

Measurement is a specific score obtained through an expert evaluation

Measurement is a process through which our level of performance fitness level, ability
knowledge trait and skills are measured with the help of various standard test
.

 It is the process of interpreting the collected data to measure and make the professional judgement of value
or worth.
 The evaluation is the process which tells the worth or progress of the individual or group. It is a process of
making judgments based on criteria and evidence.
IMPORTANCE OF TEST
MESUREMENT AND EVALUATION
 For getting knowledge about the progress
 For preparation of effective planning
 For knowing the capacities and abilities
 For giving motivation
 For proper classification of students:
 For knowing the achievement in future
 For research and experimentation
 For discovering the needs of the participants
 Classification of sportsperson:
 Selection of sportsperson
Body Mass Index (BMI

 BMI is a simple mathematical calculation which helps us to find out if

an individual is normal weighted, over weighted or obese.
How to measure BMI
 Measurement of Body Weight It can be done with the help of a weighing machine. Procedure The individual
is asked to stand on the weighing machine. The readings of the machine should be noted. While taking the
weight, the individual should wear minimum garments. Reading of the weight should be noted down in
Kilograms.
 Measurement of Height It can be done with the help of an Anthropometry or Stadiometer. Procedure The
subject is asked to stand straight against the wall, with the back and head touching the wall, looking in
forward direction. The measuring bar of anthropometric rod should be touched at the highest point of the
subject’s head (vertex point). The reading should be noted down in centimetres.
Norms
This assessment gives the information of an
individual’s level of obesity and fitness index
waist-to-hip ratio (WHR)
 The waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) helps us to find out the fat distribution by which we can
help in evaluating the overall health of an individual. One who carries more weight
around the middle than the hip may have higher risk of developing several health
issues. This is the ratio of the circumference of the waist and the circumference of the
hip of an individual.
Waist hip ratio Norms
SkinfoldMeasurement
Skinfold thickness (SFT) measurement is a reliable, cheap, simple, method of body fat estimation at all
ages.measures the thickness of subcutaneous fat at various sites of the body from which total body fat and hence
contribution of fat to body mass can be estimated
Somatotypes
In the 1940s, American Psychologist William Herbert Sheldon
developed a theory that there are three body types
Endomorph

 1These individual have short arms and legs

 2.They have rounded physique.
 3.Their limbs seems to be shorter because of excessive deposits of adipose tissues.
 4.The upper parts of arms and legs are significantly thicker than the lower parts.
 5 It is hard for them to lose weight.
 6.They have soft body.
 7. They have underdeveloped muscles
 8.They have a capacity for high fat storage and become fat easily.
 9.Infact more inclined to become obese.
 10.They have a pear shaped structure.
 11.Their excessive mass hinders their ability to compete in sports.
 12.Sports and games which require strength such as weightlifting and power lifting are suitable for
endomorph.
Mesomorph
 1.Mesomorph are categorised as in between the other two body types and are generally described as
muscular
 2.They have athletic physique and balanced body composition.
 3.They are able to increase the muscle size quickly and easily.
 4.They have well developed rectangular shaped structure.
 5.They have thick bones and muscles.
 6Their chest and shoulders are longer and broader in comparison to their waistline.
 7.They are physically capable of doing a lot of activities and tend to be athletically aggressive
 8.Generally they store fat evenly all over their bodies but they can become overweight if they lead sedentary
lifestyle and take high calorie diet.
 9.They can excel in such sports which require great strength, short bursts of energy and lots of power as they
have enough strength, agility and speed.
Ectomorph
 1.The individuals who have an ectomorph body are usually referred to as slim person because their muscles
and limbs are elongated.
 2.They have weak constitution of body and usually face great difficulties in gaining weight;
 3.They have flat chests and have less muscle mass.
 4 The lack of muscle mass creates the impression that they are taller than they really are.
 5.They do not have a lot of strength, but they dominate the endurance sports.
 6.They have a quick metabolism to burn fat.
 7.They also have a tendency to stick with what they do best.
 8.Their light body constitution makes them suited for aerobic activities like gymnastics.
