CANAL HYDRAULIC ANALYSISE & DESIGN

 Considering the pervious nature of the soil and will save the
limited water source, rectangular lined masonry main and
secondary canal sections are designed based on Manning’s
equation shown below.

 n=Manning’s Roughness Coefficient


0.018 for masonry lined canal
0.015 for concrete lined canal
0.025 for unlined earthen canal

 Considering the rectangular lined masonry canal section to be
more economical and efficient the hydraulic analysis should be
selected with,
small Wetted Perimeter and ,
Canal width(B) equal to two times flow depth(d)
 Primary main canal(MC):with a design discharge 0.755m3/s,
command area 500Ha and 1:740 longitudinal slope,the hydraulic
x-section is shown below:
