SCIENCE D Changes on the Surface of A the Earth as a Result of Volcanic Eruption Y 2 QUARTER 4 WEEK 2 In the last lesson, you learned about the changes on the earth’s surface as a result of volcanic eruption. Can you give some examples. Let’s look at the picture below. Why is it called as the pacific ring of fire? Tectonic plate movement has caused much of the world's volcanoes to form in the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Philippines is situated in this area, where many tectonic plates collide. With active volcanoes in the Philippines, the country is vulnerable to a variety of disasters caused by volcanic eruptions and their consequences. Volcanic eruptions have the potential to cause mass destruction and major environmental damage. Lava destroys forests and everything in its way, and lahars can cause massive flooding in some areas. All species, including humans, suffer serious health consequences as a result of this activity. Volcanic eruptions may be quiet or violent, resulting in dangerous lava flows, toxic gases, and airborne rocks and ash. Such natural hazards, such as earthquakes, landslides, debris flows, flash floods, explosions, and tsunamis, are often associated with volcanic eruptions. If you live near an active or inactive volcano, be ready to act quickly. Safety Precautions Before, During, and After Volcanic Eruption Write B if the precaution is done before volcanic eruption; D if during volcanic eruption and A if after volcanic eruption. _____ 1. Prepare evacuation plans and conduct evacuation drills. _____ 2. Avoid running car or truck engines. _____ 3. Bring animals and livestock into safe shelters. _____ 4.
