Shahaf Presentation

The document outlines the evolution of mobile network generations from 1G to 4G, detailing their history, uses, advantages, and data rates. 1G networks, developed in the 1980s, utilized analog signals with slow speeds, while 2G introduced digital signals and services like SMS. The document also covers advancements in 3G and 4G technologies, highlighting improved data rates and security features.

Generations Of Mobile

GENERATION 1 TO 4

PRESENTED BY: M.SHAHAF

List of Generations
• 1G
• 2G
• 3G
• 4G
First Generation
• History:
● This Generation network’s are developed 1980’s in US.
● The first Introduction in the place is Israel in 1986.
● and the next place is Australia in 1987.
• Use:
This 1G network’s are based on analog radio signals.
• Good Example:
(AMPS)>AMPS mean’s analog modulation system.
Disadvantage
• Main disadvantage of 1G technology is when the subscribes area
other coverage are they have to register with current coverage area
i.e By calling to the operator we have register.

• Speed:
Very Slow (7KBPS)
1G Mobile standards
NAME PLACES
• NMT (Nordic Mobile • Nordic countries, Switzerland,
Telephone) Netherlands, Eastern Europe
and Russia
• RTMI
• Italy
• AMPS (advance mobile phone
system) • North America and Australia
• TACS (total Access • United Kingdom, C-450 in West
Communication System) Germany, Portugal and South
Africa
Different Types of 1G Mobiles
Second generation >2G
• History:
● This network’s are developed in 1991.
● The 2G introduced service of mobile ,staring with SMS text
messages, 2G has been superseded by newer technologies such as 2.5G, 2.7G.
• Use:
This 2G Network’s are based on digital radio signals
• Good Example:
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication).
• Data Rate:
This Data rates is 10 to 256 KBPS.
Advantages
• Going all digital allowed for the introduction of digital data services,
such as SMS and email.
• Greatly reduced fraud with analog systems it was possible to have
two or more “cloned” handsets that had the same phone number.
• The draw back of 1G networks was controlled by 2G network by
using IS41 protocol.
• Whenever we go another state automatically registration is done.
This is the main advantage
2G-next version
• 2.5G-GPRS
• 1The first major step in the evolution of GSM networks to 3G
occurred with the introduction of General Packet Radio Service
(GPRS). CDMA2000networks similarly evolved through the
introduction of 1xRTT. The Combination of these capabilities came
to be known as 2.5G.
• 2CGPRS could provide data rates from 56 Kbit/s up to 115 Kbit/s. (it
supports MMS, WEB APPs, e-mails)
• 3 1xRTT supports data rates up to 153.6 Kbit/s.
2.75G-EDGE
• DGEs standardized by 3GPP as part of the GSM
family and itis upgrade that provides a potential
three-fold increase in capacity of GSM/GPRS
networks. The specification achieves higher data
rates (Up to) 236.8 Kbits by Switching to more
sophisticated method of Coding
Third Generation 3G
• History:
• 1.It is better to the 1G and 2G Network’s.
• The 3G Network's are international Mobile Telecommunication-
2000(IMT-2000).
• The 3G Network's first commercial launch of 3G was also by NTT
DoCoMo In Japan on 1 October 2001.
• next 3G network operator in the USA was Verizon wireless in
October 2003.
3G Features
• Data Rates:
IMT-2000 will provide higher transmission rates a
minimum data rate of 2 Mbit/s for stationary or
walking users and 384 Kbit/s
• Security
1.3G networks offer greater security than their 2G
predecessors by allowing the UE ( User Equipment)
Fourth Generation 4G
• History:
In Sep 2009 the technology proposals were submitted to
the International telecommunication union (ITU) as 4G
candidates basically all proposals are based on two
technologies
Mobile WiMAX(IEEE 802.16e)
WIMAX feature is added it is world’s first commercial mobile
wimax service was open by south Korea on 20 June 2006
