School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies

The School of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies at South Dakota State University, home to distinguished researchers, students and teachers. Our school is committed to providing a supportive and dynamic teaching and research environment that equips and inspires faculty and students to learn, create and apply knowledge in psychology, sociology and rural studies.


Our school is staffed by over one-dozen faculty members who have various training and interests in psychological and sociological sciences. Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty members both inside and outside of the classroom. Our graduates are prepared for a wide array of careers in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, medicine, law and related areas.

Degrees Offered
The academic programs include undergraduate majors in criminology, psychology and sociology. The minors provide study in criminal justice, mental health services, psychology and sociology. Finally, the school offers teaching specializations in both psychology and sociology.

High School Dual Credit

Dual credit is an opportunity for eligible high school juniors and seniors to enroll in courses at SDSU and earn credits toward their post-secondary degree while completing their high school graduation requirements.
