Travis County drywall company owner facing felony fraud charges

Cristino Tapia Castaneda, owner of Texana Drywall Construction, is set to appear in Travis County's 427th District Court on February 12, to face three counts of fraud totaling $170,000. DWC's Fraud Unit uncovered the alleged scheme, which began in 2014 and continued through 2024.

Lauren Concrete plants earn Lone Star Safety Awards

DWC recognizes 21 Lauren Concrete plants for their exemplary commitment to workplace safety by awarding them the Lone Star Safety Award. This year, 17 plants successfully renewed their awards, while four facilities are receiving honors for the first time.

Discount interest rate set

DWC has determined that any interest or discount provided for in the Texas Labor Code will be set at the rate of 7.74%. The rate is effective Jan. 1, 2025, through Mar. 31, 2025.

DWC proposes routine rule review

DWC will review all sections in chapters 129 through 137 in Title 28, Texas Administrative Code. The deadline to submit comments is January 27, 2025.

DWC adopts 2025 medical quality review audit plan

DWC has adopted the Medical Quality Review Calendar Year 2025 Annual Audit Plan. The plan includes one audit to evaluate designated doctor reports for quality and compliance with 28 Texas Administrative Code Sections 127.10, 127.210, and 127.220, with a focus on documentation that supports the need for additional testing or referrals made as part of the designated doctor examination.
