In one of the suite’s segments, Gary visits Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny, in the Normandy region of France, staging herself as an errant presence within its manufactured perfection; as she roams the grounds, she suddenly disappears amid precisely arranged trees, and abruptly starts screaming by the water lily pond, inserting glitches into the image.

At the center of the garden is a sunken lily pond with little mossy stairs that curve all the way around it.

I realize I’ve seen the lily pond before.

They’re all landscapes—of the river and meadows mostly, one of Old Joe’s farm at sunset, and one of a garden with a lily pond.

I really explored how she gets from this flagstone to the next flagstone to the lily pond to the bridge to the puddle to the stone — jumping from thing to thing.
