During World War Two, Roy E. Lindquist was in command of 508 P.I.R. He led the unit in every operation in which it took part.
Roy E. Lindquist was born February 18th, 1907. He graduated from Class 1936 at Military Academy West Point.
From 1942, Major Lindquist was given the task of establishing the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR). The unit was eventually commissioned at Camp Blanding on October 20th, 1942. April 1943 saw him promoted to Colonel. In December 1945, he transferred command of 508th PIR to Lieutenant-Colonel Otto Holmes.
Roy E. Lindquist eventually rose to Major General. After the war he served as Commanding General Camp Stoneman, Assistant Commander 6th Infantry Division, Commanding General 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander IX Corps, Acting Commanding General of the Central Command, Chief of the Training Inspection Team, Deputy Test Director Troop Test Jump Light Fort Campbell and Commanding General 3rd Infantry Division. For his post-war achievements he was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal (1960).
He passed away November 19th , 1986 in St. Petersburg, Florida and was buried at West Point Cemetery.
