NSF Unidata Summer Student Internships Available!

Boulder, Colorado
Spend the summer in beautiful Boulder, Colorado

Do you use NSF Unidata software packages? Do you love to write code or teach others about data-centered Earth System Science? Maybe you're just interested in the interplay of science and data? The NSF Unidata Summer Internship program is looking for you!

Apply by 24 January 2025!

The NSF Unidata Summer Internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with NSF Unidata Program Center staff on projects drawn from a wide variety of areas in the atmospheric and computational sciences. NSF Unidata's mission is to support the Earth System Science research and education community with data and tools for data access, analysis, and visualization. As an NSF Unidata intern, you'll pursue the goal of adding innovative enhancements to data access, analysis, and visualization tools developed within NSF Unidata.

NSF Unidata is a great place to work. Our relaxed environment and small program size give you the opportunity to benefit from individual mentoring and to build a close working relationship with the technical staff.

What will you do all summer? We'd like to hear what you want to work on! We're open to pretty much any project that holds your interest and will benefit the NSF Unidata community in some way. You'll have the chance to interact with software developers, instructional designers, technical writers, and other mentors within the program, building skill with modern software development processes, learning about data-enabled geoscience, and generally getting to know what it’s like to work in a community-focused organization supporting Earth System Science research and education. You can contribute to NSF Unidata’s innovative data access, analysis, and visualization tools by writing code, creating learning materials, or participating in other aspects of the software development lifecycle.

To get a good idea about the scope of summer projects, read through some of the descriptions of previous interns' summer activities. (You can also watch their end-of-summer presentations on the NSF Unidata Seminar Series page.)

The internship will run from 19 May to 1 August 2025. You must currently be enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior or in a graduate level program at a United States college or university to apply. For additional details, possible projects, and information on how to apply, visit the Summer Internships page.

Comments:

I would have loved to be part of this as I really want to teach the metpy to scientific communities in Nigeria. Unfortunately, I am a lecturer in Nigeria!
