The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)

Excellence

Organizational excellence, like sustainable development, is not a destination.

It is a journey in which knowledge and technology are adapted continuously, and multiple interests, components and efforts come together to achieve better outcomes.

Excellence is what drives us. We believe that continuously improving our knowledge, skills and processes leads to the best possible results for communities in need.

Empowering high performance

Our drive for excellence is about being more than just an implementing partner. It is about going the extra mile to maximize the value of our partners’ projects and better serve communities in need. Whether a project manager, an engineer or a procurement expert, our commitment to excellence extends to all personnel and is supported with certified training for all.

Continuously improving health, safety, social and environmental management

UNOPS is committed to maximizing the health, safety, social and environmental aspects across all of our projects and facilities.

Our health, safety, social and environmental management system outlines the processes and practices we follow to minimize health and safety risks of UNOPS activities, and identifies opportunities to strengthen the social and environmental impact of all our operations, projects and functions.

We are continuously monitoring and improving our health, safety, social and environmental performance, and incorporating efficient and innovative solutions to improve the effectiveness of our management systems.

Goal Zero – Striving to achieve zero injuries, zero illnesses

We are committed to ensuring that the people who work for and with the organization do not fall sick or sustain injuries as a result of carrying out their duties. UNOPS has a zero tolerance approach to unsafe work environments as we strive to deliver the highest quality work for our partners and communities we support – safely and sustainably.

Using limited resources effectively

Resources for peace and security, humanitarian and development projects are often limited and need to be used effectively. For UNOPS, this means providing value for money and being transparent about how the money is spent and how results are achieved. It also means constantly watching our costs and looking for ways to deliver quality results in a timely manner.

Gathering best practices

UNOPS continuously benchmarks against external bodies, striving for relevant certifications and adopting internationally recognized best practices. This ensures that our processes actively increase the effectiveness of our partners' projects – again, helping donors and developing countries spread their limited budgets further.
