Landslide Headscarps in Marine Terraces along the Pacific Coast of Washington and Oregon

We present a set of 617 landslide headscarps along marine terraces in Oregon and Washington State. Headscarps (as polyline features) were mapped from

Coseismic landslide runout and mobility ratio data from publicly available mapped landslide inventories

Earthquake-triggered landslides can significantly contribute to human and economic losses during and immediately following earthquakes, but data on the runout behavior of such ground failures is limited. Hazard assessment of coseismic landslide risk can vary dramatically depending on landslide mobility and runout extent, which makes modeling of such behavior imperative. Predictive and empirical mo

Precariously balanced rock data from northern New York and Vermont, USA

This work describes observations of boulders and their pedestals at five sites in New York and Vermont, which are used to calculate scaling factors for the 2023 time-independent National Seismic Hazard Model site-specific hazard curves (Petersen, M.D., Shumway, A.M., Powers, P.M., Field, E.H., Moschetti, M.P., Jaiswal, K.S., Milner, K.R., Rezaeian, S., Frankel, A.D., Llenos, A.L. and Michael, A.J.

Broadband Ground Motion Simulations for an Earthquake “Doublet” on the Newport-Inglewood and Palos Verdes Faults

The occurrence and impact of the February 2023 earthquake doublet in Türkiye, where an Mw 7.8 event was followed roughly 9 hours later by an Mw 7.5 event on an adjacent fault, begs the question: What would be the impact of such a sequence in California? As part of the effort to address this question, this Data Release consists of simulated ground motions for a hypothetical doublet scenario on the

Broadband Ground Motion Simulations for an Earthquake “Doublet” on the Hayward and Calaveras Faults

Datasets documenting lineament mapping and neotectonic observations in northern New Mexico

These datasets provide remotely mapped lineaments and neotectonic observations in northern New Mexico, based on 1-m lidar and satellite imagery data. Some lineaments are interpreted to be Quaternary-active faults, whereas others are interpreted to be older bedrock faults with no evidence for Quaternary movement. Simplified fault traces for interpreted Quaternary-active faults are provided for seis

Synthetic seismogram data for 3D converted wave reverse time migration imaging of subduction zone structure

The dataset consists of synthetic seismograms recorded using the SPECFEM3D wave propagation software. Data from 8 isotropic earthquake sources were recorded at 630 stations while data from 8 realistic earthquakes were recorded at 520.

Cone Penetration Test data of Paleoliquefaction sites in Washington and Oregon

In many parts of the United States and around the globe, the instrumental earthquake record is insufficient to characterize seismic hazard or constrain potential ground motion intensities from individual sources. This lack of data is particularly acute for the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) of the U.S. Pacific Northwest, where paleoseismic evidence suggests a long history of large megathrust event

Winter 2023 Arcata to Eureka, California, Deployment of Nodal Seismometers

These data are from a 3-month long deployment of nodal seismometers that ran from December 22th, 2022 until March 1st, 2023 as part of a Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) experiment above the Gorda plate. The deployment was done in response to the 2022/12/20 M6.4 Ferndale earthquake. The sensors were deployed at 46 locations along Old Arcata Rd between Arcata and Eureka California (Figure 1); the

Seismic Reflection Profiles Imaging the Seattle Fault Zone Beneath West Seattle, Central Seattle, and Mercer Island, Washington State

The U.S. Geological Survey, with funding from the National Earthquakes Hazard Reduction Program, collected ~24 km of north-south trending land-based P-wave seismic reflection profiles gathered across three urban areas in Seattle, Washington: West Seattle, central Seattle, and Mercer Island. The West Seattle profiles were collected with an accelerated weight drop source and 8 Hz vertical component

Dataset Supporting the Manuscript: Debris avalanches in the northern California Coast Range triggered by plate boundary earthquakes

This dataset contains the raw data supporting the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America article 'Debris avalanches in the northern California Coast Range triggered by plate boundary earthquakes.' It includes radiocarbon dating results from sampled tree rings for dendrochronology, landslide volume tables, and tree and scarp displacement measurements of Mule slide.

Digital elevation and point cloud data from laser scanning at the Gualala paleoseismic site along the San Andreas Fault

These data are derived from laser scanning surveys of a paleoseismic investigation site along the north coast section of the San Andreas Fault near Gualala, CA. We performed three surveys with a terrestrial laser scanner at different stages of trench excavation in 2021. To generate more complete maps of the bare ground at the site, we also incorporated airborne laser scanner data from the USGS 3DE
