Snow

A low pressure system moved across the Tennessee Valley during the day of Thursday, January 20th. Widespread snow developed across the region during the morning hours and continued through the afternoon. The snow became heavy at times during the afternoon and early evening hours. The snow then tapered off from west to east across the area during the mid to late evening hours. Storm total snow amounts were generally in the 4 to 6 inch range along the Interstate 71 corridor. Farther to the north and west across the Whitewater and northern Miami Valleys storm totals were in the 3 to 5 inch range, decreasing to just 1 to 3 inches across west central Ohio. Snow Amounts across south central Ohio and northeast Kentucky were in the 2 to 4 inch range.

A very cold airmass moved in behind the low pressure system. This allowed temperatures to fall into the single digits across much of the area by the morning of the 21st. Northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph resulted in sub zero wind chills through the morning hours.
