Severe Weather & Tornadoes

In the wake of the June 29 Derecho, another severe weather event occurred just two days later on the first of July. Thunderstorms over northern Indiana congealed into a few clusters and bowing segments, moving into the NWS Wilmington OH forecast area after 4 PM. The storms moved through the Miami Valley and parts of central Ohio, producing large hail and damaging winds. Some of the wind damage was significant, especially in Miami and Clark Counties. Further south, additional thunderstorm cells developed and produced damaging winds and large hail. A strong storm over northern Clermont County produced hail to golf ball size, while a storm over Ross County became a supercell and produced hail up to the size of baseballs.
