National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce
February 4th-5th, 2014
Heavy Snow and Significant Ice/Mixed Precipitation

A fast moving, potent winter storm moved across the area during the night of February 4th/5th 2014. Locations across northern Kentucky and southern Ohio started with heavy snow and transitioned to sleet and then freezing rain with some significant ice accumulations, causing power outages to 5,000 to 10,000 people and tree damage. Further north, snow mixed briefly with sleet, before changing to freezing rain as precipitation tapered off. The result was 5-10" of snow/sleet accumulation in west-central and central Ohio. Some minor flooding was even reported in extreme south-central Ohio and northeast Kentucky as precipitation changed to rain late in the event. This storm brought widespread travel impacts with many schools and businesses being closed on Wednesday, February 5th, 2014.
