Hatcheries, or artificial propagation, are one tool to help support wild populations and provide fish for harvest. When using this approach we carefully consider interactions between hatchery and natural-origin fish in the context of our overall goals for threatened or endangered fish. NOAA Fisheries on the West Coast works with applicants and other parties to balance conservation goals with the fulfillment of treaty Indian fishing rights and other applicable laws and policies.
