[edit]@Treetoes023: let's count. S(Australian continent (Q3960)) = 7659861 including Tasmania (Q3593416) (S=68041) but not New Guinea (Q40285). Area of Insular Oceania (Q538) is 822800[1] , including S(New Guinea (Q40285))=785753 461937[2] and S(New Zealand (Q664))=265700[3] and S(Polynesia (Q35942))=26000. Is it ok? - Just add two numbers: 7659861 + 822800 = 8482661. So it's not 9 mln sq.km! --Infovarius (talk) 20:51, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Is Oceania a continent?
[edit]@Infovarius I understand that there is a debate to know if Oceania is a continent.
Some people consider that Australian continent (Q3960) is the continent.
Even if Oceania is not a "real" continent according to geology, it is considered as a continent by many institutions. For instance, the United Nations consider Oceania as a continent since they put it at the same level as Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America (https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/)
So from a socio-political point of view Oceania should be considered as a continent. PAC2 (talk) 21:03, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
