Motivation
[edit]Useful for identifing companies in Europe, yes it might be subject to abuse, so it should not be used to make transactions. Not sure if it should be string or ext-id. Germartin1 (talk) 09:00, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support could be a surprisingly useful property to eliminate duplicates/match entities since it is usually published and applies to more entities than the only other similar identifier, the tax id. Karl Oblique (talk) 09:45, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose Note that IBAN is not an identifier of the company/organization, as it is an identifier of a bank account. Companies usually have multiple bank accounts. These data also change frequently. I don't think wikidata should store this type of data. --Jklamo (talk) 16:34, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

- Support ISIN is also not a company identifier but identifier of particular financial instruments (securities), and some companies have thousands of these. Similarly, "ticker" (qualifier for "stock exchange": a company can have several and a ticker can be reused between companies. Nevertheless, both were accepted as WD properties of companies since they are useful for matching companies. Should be external-id even if there is no formatterURL for it--Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 06:29, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Also, there is ISO 9362 SWIFT/BIC code (P2627). And if you think it's 1:1 with banks, you are wrong Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 06:34, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Note that per Wikidata:WikiProject Companies/Properties it is recommended to use ISIN (P946) for listed equity securities, not debt securities. ticker symbol (P249) is even used as qualifier of stock exchange (P414), not as a main statement. --Jklamo (talk) 09:22, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
