I knew a painted basement ceiling was the right solution for our basement pub and hobby room. It ticked a lot of practical boxes - the benefits of a black basement ceiling are many - including how much taller the room looks, plus it's easy and so affordable!

The original ceiling was from the 1960's. We removed it all, used brackets and 2x4's to drop the ceiling 2 inches, built the frames from 1x6's and used drywall for the ceiling tiles. They can be pushed up and slid over to access the ceiling cavity. We also replaced florescent tube lighting with led lighting on dimmers. Faux Coffered Dropped Ceiling
