Quickies: What’s The Priority Here?

     Second, a few words from CNN “analyst” Brandon Tensley:

     Washington (CNN): It's a statement that's as predictable as it is infuriating: President Donald Trumpov's administration lacks diversity.

     On Tuesday, Trumpov tweeted photos of a briefing he'd received on the new coronavirus spreading out of China.

     "We will continue to monitor the ongoing developments," the President said in his post. "We have the best experts anywhere in the world, and they are on top of it 24/7!"

     Who are these experts? They're largely the same sorts of white men (and a couple women on the sidelines) who've dominated the Trumpov administration from the very beginning.

     Let’s assume, just for the sake of argument, that the priority is stopping the spread of this new and threatening disease. I mean, it could be pandering to the mouthpieces of activist minority groups, but I’d prefer to think that President Trumpov is more concerned with the health of Americans and (secondarily) the rest of the world. I’d also prefer to think that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) hires and promotes on the basis of recognized expertise in epidemiology. So: we look around the table at the group President Trumpov has called together, and we find a sea of largely melanin-poor faces. Ought we to assume that they’re not highly regarded epidemiologists, or failing that, experts in other fields essential to dealing with international crises?

     I think we can deduce Brandon Tensley’s priority:

     And as a CNN employee, that priority meshes well with that of CNN, home of Jim Acosta and other hard-driven enemies of the Trumpov Administration.

     This “diversity” crap has to be whipped back into its kennel. It’s become a genuine canker on the national discourse. But just for giggles, let’s entertain the possibility that a president – not Trumpov; he’s much too smart and responsible – would be so concerned with skin colors that his decisions about whom to include on a commission dedicated to fighting a global plague would put skin colors above all other considerations. Alternately, we could make him obsessed with sexual diversity, in which case he’d put the inclusion of women, homosexuals, and transgenders above epidemiological expertise. In either case, the most likely outcome would be that the plague would go on longer and claim more victims. But the activist minority groups would be placated: the race hustlers, the gender-war feminists, and the drag queens. That’s the important thing.

     Never in my life have I read anything as scurrilous and contemptible as Tensley’s diatribe. He should be grateful that I have no power to punish him for it, other than this excoriation.

     He probably venerates Obama. Obama, after all, had the “right” skin color, and pandered to the minority mouthpieces almost reflexively. Never mind that he was a deceitful son of a bitch who put subjugating Americans and power for the Democrats – especially for black Democrats – above all other considerations.

     At this point CNN has descended beneath contempt. Whoever makes its editorial decisions should be tarred and feathered. Jeff Zucker deserves to be stripped of his citizenship and run out of the country. His “news network” deserves the ignominy it has earned.

Colonization Chronicles

     Once the Left has set its sights on some organization, that organization must choose between all-out war or abject surrender. This follows from Robert Conquest’s Second Law of Politics:

Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.

     The dynamic involved is well understood:

  1. Let a Leftist in on any grounds whatsoever: e.g., “diversity.”
  2. The same or related grounds will get the Leftist visibility and, ultimately, a promotion.
  3. The Lefty now uses his position to get more Leftists in and advance their careers, while discouraging and impeding the hiring and promotion of Rightists or the non-political. The gaggle of Leftists will coordinate and operate as a bloc within the organization, gaining influence as their number increases.
  4. Over time, this dynamic results in a Left-dominated organization – and Leftists put politics above all other things, including the health of the organization.

     Simple, isn’t it? It’s death to any organization that requires competence and shuns politics...but once it’s in progress, it’s damned near impossible to resist. The truly tragic part is this: The early stages of this colonization process are nearly invisible.

     The insidiousness of the process is why Conquest’s Second Law includes the phrase “not explicitly right-wing.” The sole guaranteed preventative is a resolution not to hire Leftists, and to expel any that manage to sneak in – in other words, to politicize the organization toward the Right ab initio. That resolution requires that even a highly competent Leftist, whose relevant skills could be a great asset, must be excluded from the organization. That’s a tough call for a manager in a hiring position to make.

     Apparently, managers in the entertainment industries are incapable of making it.


     I’ve written about the Left’s colonization of the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) on a number of occasions, most notably here, here, and here. The speculative-fiction genres, which are singularly attractive to young, imaginative readers, must have appeared a very juicy target. As it happens, the logic applies just as powerfully to the comic-book industry:

     Jon Del Arroz is an award-nominated science fiction writer, contributor at The Federalist and author of the upcoming space novella Gravity of the Game. He has followed the industry problems closely.
     There's a disconcerting trend on the left because the black-balling attempts in the industry have failed, due to independent media platforms, so they have moved to intimidation and threats of violence. Sad!

     Del Arroz, a comic book fan, senses a reckoning coming.

     The Industry is in trouble. Unlike others they have a distribution network only meant to further Marvel/DC properties. For real change to happen, fans have to support indies.

     PJ Media reached out to Richard Meyer [YouTube channel: Diversity & Comics], who was happy to talk about being targeted by SJWs. "It's a neo-McCarthyism situation, the industry is being destroyed," he said. "They are killing it. They've turned an industry into a community which doesn't have to have sales or success. It's a vicious pogrom and excommunication of anyone right of the extreme far left."

     Now as it happens, this colonization is self-defeating. The Left will suppress entertainment considerations to promote its political positions. But no one buys comic books to be harangued about politics. As a relevant sidelight, note this development on which Meyer comments:

     Carol Danvers, or Captain Marvel, is becoming transgendered. Comic book fans have taken to calling her "Carl Manvers."

     "We're watching her boobs disappear in every issue," said Meyers. "Marvel has killed all the heterosexual romances in the stories and replaced them with gay relationships. Gay relationships are depicted as idyllic and heterosexual romances are shown as problematic. Comic book shops are suffering because they can't sell these books. No one wants them."

     Promoting politics over adventure is bad enough, but gay couples only and boobless women? Insupportable! Therefore, the colonized organizations will lose sales and, eventually, collapse. That doesn’t make it any less of a loss to those who once enjoyed the destroyed organization’s offerings.

     It does, however, emphasize the importance of promoting “indies,” in this field and elsewhere in the entertainment world, who actually provide the customer with what he’s there for. A number of indies in science fiction and fantasy have gained large followings. The rise of indie comics will eventually provide comic-book aficionadi with the good-versus-evil clashes between larger-than-life figures (and the booby women) for which they value the form – if those indies receive enough attention to keep them from throwing up their hands, moaning “What’s the use?” and abandoning the enterprise.


     In the usual case, the Left cannot provide entertainment of the sort consumers enjoy. Leftists’ political obsessions prevent it. The bad news is that the entertainment forms the Left has conquered will be unentertaining in the near term. The good news is for those of us with some staying power: the conquered organizations will fail and be replaced by new, healthy purveyors of entertainment, who’ll know better than to politicize their wares.

     That doesn’t mean Conquest’s Second Law will no longer apply. Indies who become successful could well be seduced into joining or forming organizations. The dynamic outlined at the start of this screed will apply to them just as forcefully as it has applied to Hollywood, to the speculative-fiction genres, and to the comics industry. Perhaps they’ll learn from the sins of their predecessors, but it’s by no means certain. No human failing is more widespread than the inability — or the unwillingness – to learn from the mistakes of others.

     We shall see.

Death By Diversity

     Let’s imagine for a moment that you own and operate a business. Perhaps it has a few hundred employees. Perhaps it has a black-ink balance sheet: steady revenues, positive profitability, ample cash reserves, and good credit. And perhaps its product line is a leading-edge technology that required quite a bit of scientific and engineering knowledge to develop, and requires almost as much to maintain and advance.

     Would you hire illiterates, or persons without proven scientific or engineering expertise, or persons without mathematical skills, or persons whose physical handicaps severely retard their productivity, or persons who actively detest “unbelievers” to work in your company?

     A silly question, isn’t it? Of course you would! If you were to refrain from doing so, the DiversitocratsTM would be all over you like a cheap suit. You see, what matters isn’t that the product you make improves the lives of its customers. What matters isn’t that you employ several hundred people, enabling them and their families to live independently of the Omnibenevolent State. What matters isn’t your property rights over what you and you alone have built.

     What matters is that you bow to the Diversitocrats.TM They cannot abide a dissenter.

     Actually, it’s worse than that. If your company is all white, and its scientists and engineers are overwhelmingly male, the DiversitocratsTM actively want to see it – and you – crash and burn. You are a bleeding canker upon their vision of Social Justice. You must be destroyed before you can mislead others into thinking that there’s an objective reality whose laws can’t be repealed, modified, reinterpreted, or otherwise finessed.

     Never imagine for a moment that the DiversitocratsTM are genuinely interested in diversity. They merely hate whites, men, the able-bodied, and Christians. They conceal that ravening hatred behind a facade of concern for nonwhites, women, the handicapped, and anything but Christians. They’re certainly not interested in diversity of thought or opinion. If you differ with them, you’re a target. Only if you agree with them – by which I mean wholeheartedly and without a scintilla of divergence on any point however small – will you be allowed to exist. Under their continuous scrutiny, of course.

     Their hatred is best evidenced by their enthusiastic support for the Islamic invasion currently overrunning Europe, with America soon to follow.


     A recent piece at Atlantic Centurion illuminates one of the most significant symptoms of the Diversitocrats’TM ascendancy:

     According to business-news themed clickbait site Inc.com:
     The spotlight and the magnifying glass have been on tech companies’ dismal diversity numbers for the past year. Hiring diverse candidates shouldn’t have to be a struggle. Yet, the latest numbers from companies like Facebook and Intel show that the needle is barely moving. As a result, there’s a new position in fashion within tech company c-suites: say hello to the head of diversity. Recently spotted job listings show tech companies are making diversity an executive level position.

     Ding ding ding. Diversity!TM No explanation—just keep drumming it in. We need more of it! Companies are basically hiring “Chief Diversity Officers,” if they didn’t already have them. We can’t all be cutting-edge progressives from the get-go; some organizations need an extra push. Whether this is due to media campaigns from leftist journalists, internal initiatives or both is hard to generalize, but the fact of the matter is that the Diversity is Our Greatest Strength® meme has taken root among the business elite. They nominally believe that a diverse workforce, whatever that means, is better than, say, meritocracy or standardization.

     But that’s just where it starts. The “Chief Diversity Officer” will of course have a department beneath him. In hiring for that department, he will select disproportionately for non-whites, for women, for the disabled, for the scientifically and technologically illiterate, and of course for non-Christians. There are three reasons for this:

  1. It’s the way he swings;
  2. It will tug the company’s “diversity quotient” (DQ) in the right direction;
  3. His subordinates will become his evangelists and enforcers to the rest of the company.

     And of course, when the Gospel of DiversityTM has done its fell work upon the firm – when revenues slide, profitability craters, and the scientific / technological component of the workforce is rendered inert by Diversity-induced friction, the “Chief Diversity Officer” will scream that it’s because the company culture is racist, sexist, ableist, Christianist, etc. He will claim that these problems can only be fixed by more Diversity.TM

     If you work in a company with more than a few dozen employees, this is all but certainly already a part of your world. If your company is currently too small a fish for the DiversitocratsTM to care about, beware as it moves upward in revenues and general visibility. The Diversitocrats’TM crosshairs will settle on your company sooner or later.


     I retired from my job in defense engineering earlier this year. I didn’t do so because of Diversity,TM but because my commute was taxing me physically and, at any rate, after nearly five decades in real-time software research and development, I’d had enough. But in the last few months before my retirement, I noticed that corporate was pressing our department in particular to hire more women, more non-whites, and more disabled persons.

     Mind you, a defense engineering company needs scientists and engineers. It needs persons strong in the sciences, mathematics, and the associated skills of unbiased examination and rational thought. Its natural preference will be for college graduates in the STEM fields. There is no conceivable reason for such a company to seek out other sorts of employees. Yet that is exactly what corporate was doing, even as the company was shedding revenues, contracts, and divisions.

     The corridor walls grew ever more thickly festooned with “Diversity is our strength” propaganda. One promotional poster, which seemed to be everywhere, set my teeth to grinding:

Hire People With Disabilities!

     If that makes the least shred of sense to any Gentle Reader, please explain it to me.


     Imposed DiversityTM is bigotry enforced at gunpoint. It claims to combat a long list of evils, but in reality it promotes one of the greatest evils of all: the privileging of some on the basis of characteristics that are irrelevant to whatever real value they may have to offer to others. It is racism. It is sexism. It is religious bigotry, and many things as bad or worse.

     Do you think it a coincidence that the DiversitocratsTM are all hard-left “liberals?” Oh, excuse me, “progressives?” Do you think it a coincidence that the “minorities” they champion – apropos of which, women outnumber men in these United States and have outnumbered us since the World Wars at the very least – all share their politics by an overwhelming margin?

     At this time – but by no means is this guaranteed for the future – the DiversitocratsTM have not descended to fasten their grip on companies that rely on nontraditional employees: i.e., job-shoppers and self-employed contractors. Neither will they attempt to shackle a company of fewer than about 100 employees; the quotas by which they impose their will upon a company don’t yield adequate numbers to be worth their time. But ultimately, the Floyd Ferris Principle will prevail:

     "Since the deadline for the signing of the national Gift Certificates expires tonight at midnight," said Dr. Ferris, in the tone of a salesman extending a special courtesy to a customer, "I have come to obtain your signature, Mr. Rearden."
     He paused, with an air of suggesting that the formula now called for an answer.
     "Go on," said Rearden. "I am listening."
     "Yes, I suppose I should explain," said Dr. Ferris, "that we wish to get your signature early in the day in order to announce the fact on a national news broadcast. Although the gift program has gone through quite smoothly, there are still a few stubborn individualists left, who have failed to sign-small fry, really, whose patents are of no crucial value, but we cannot let them remain unbound, as a matter of principle, you understand.”
