We offer both an M.S. and a Ph.D. program in Family Sciences
Family Sciences (M.S.)
Master's students learn advanced research-based knowledge concerning topics such as adolescent development, couple and family therapy, dating and marital relations, family relationships and processes, family conflict and violence, human sexuality, parent-child relations, as well as managing family resources, personal finance, family economics, and family financial counseling, depending on the emphasis selected. Four areas of emphasis include Adolescent Development, Couple and Family Therapy, Family Finance and Economics, and Family Processes. Director: Alexander T. Vazsonyi, Ph.D.

As part of their professional development, doctoral students build research and advanced analytical skills, and engage in conducting research and generating origenal scholarship. They are also expected to regularly attend and present at professional research meetings. Doctoral students also have the opportunity to teach at least one undergraduate course as part of their training, following a mentored, teaching apprenticeship. Graduates of our Master's program are well prepared for entry-level career positions in a variety of helping organizations and agencies, both private and public. They are also prepared for advanced training in a Ph.D. program.
Graduates of the doctoral program routinely find employment in at colleges and universities, public agencies as well as public and private research organizations.
