University-wide Navigation

LGBTQ* Resources is the University of Kentucky's central hub for accessing information, groups, and services related to diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Housed in the Office for Student Success, we are a campus-wide office that works to make sure that our community is a welcoming, safe, and supportive place for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni. We also seek to connect and collaborate with community groups and friends across the City of Lexington and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Our mission focuses on the three core pillars of education, advocacy, and community building. We are actively engaged in supporting student organizations, offering professional development opportunities for campus groups, and advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals from many walks of life. Our ultimate goal is to highlight the wonderfully diverse experiences of LGBTQ* Wildcats while working to decrease marginalization in all forms.

Three Core Pillars

Education

Our office strives to educate students, faculty, staff, and community members about various topics related to gender and sexuality. One of our primary forms of education is SafeZone. This is a 90-minute workshop to better equip individuals to be allies to the LGBTQ* community. In addition to SafeZone, the office supervises small-scale educational programming run by student ambassadors and interns. We also consult and conduct panels, expert lectures, film screenings, and more.

Advocacy

Advocating for the LGBTQ* community is essential for voices to be heard and accepted. The Office of LGBTQ* Resources partners with various campus offices and departments to create accessible and inclusive experiences. This includes identity-related housing accommodations, a single-stall lockable bathroom registry, name and gender marker change form, identity confirming Wildcat ID cards, and a partnership with Transform Health Clinic.

Community Building

Building community with LGBTQ* individuals helps create a sense of belonging for students and beyond. Our office serves as a community space for students to come in, relax, do homework, and not have to worry about discomfort around their identities. We host social events and programs at least twice per month; most of these programs and events are developed by student ambassadors. We stay connected to the local LGBTQ* communities in Lexington, as well, through collaborations and partnerships.

Our office also helped create and develop the Audre Lorde Living Learning Program.
