bot requests[edit]
Hi, thanks for your contributions to TMBW. in the future, for large-scale search-and-replace tasks like changing (The Song)
to (Song)
on show pages, please consider requesting that the task be done by a bot. bot edits are not shown on recent changes (unless a user opts in), include an edit summary to help keep page histories clear, and do not need to be patrolled by other users. my pal SallyBotCandyBar is always free for simple tasks, and Q-Bot is also probably available. thanks, Apollo (colloquia!) 00:01, 1 December 2014 (EST)
- Well, it seems as though I have no more ideas of what edits to make. I don't expect the Johns to be playing They Got Lost any time soon (especially since their next concert won't even be until next year), but if they were to, I'm sure now someone would know to say (Song) instead of (The Song). If I do have any more ideas, then I'll use your bots, but I've already done everything. The bots wouldn't have been able to make all the changes that I did anyway, so I still would've had to do stuff, like changing all the "Boss of Me (30 Second Version)"s to the "Boss of Me (What We Did This Summer Version)"s or the "Particle Man (w/ Corn Mo)"s to the "Particle Mo"s. invisiblehippo97 05:45, 1 December 2014 (CST)
- I have made two suggestions for the bot and both he refused to do. I asked him to change all the "*[In The Middle, In The Middle, In The Middle|In The Middle]"s into "*[In The Middle, In The Middle, In The Middle]"s, and said it wasn't important. And now I have to do it. I said he should change the few "Doctor Evil"s into "Dr. Evil"s. He didn't do it, so then I had to. I won't make any more suggestions now. It seems as though I cannot work with bots. invisiblehippo97 05:39, 4 December 2014 (CST)
- Q did run the bot to change In the Middle. the reason he hasn't done the "doctor" songs is because those changes aren't really necessary. the titles are interchangeable. Apollo (colloquia!) 09:35, 4 December 2014 (EST)
- Are you telling me that the "In the Middle"s were more necessary than the "Doctor Evil"s? I mean, I know that there were fewer of them, but those titles were also interchangeable. And since they are interchangeable, then why were there so many more "Dr. Evil"s than there are "Doctor Evil"s? invisiblehippo97 05:32, 5 December 2014 (CST)
- I really think you're stretching the definition of what exactly is important here. There are bigger matters to attend to on the wiki than slight variations in song titles. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 06:51, 5 December 2014 (EST)
- What it actually comes down to is that there's nothing wrong with having redirects on the site - they're just a part of how wikis work, not a problem that needs to be fixed. There's no need to correct "Doctor Evil" to "Dr. Evil", because it doesn't actually improve anything or result in a better experience for our users. People will always write variations of titles like that, which is why the redirects exist. So please, if we tell you that there's no need for a bot to make a change, don't take it upon yourself to do it. There are a few scenarios where fixing redirects is actually useful, one being when the wrong title is on a setlist, because that could result in the "known performances" counter being messed up (for example, the setlist search won't realize "NyQuil Driver" is actually "AKA Driver", so we fixed those). But for the most part, the changes you've been asking bots to make don't fall into this category. -CapitalQ ♫ talk ♪ 11:00, 5 December 2014 (EST)
- Well, fixing the names of songs on setlists is a thing that I have been doing. (I haven't even done the "In the Middle" thing yet. Maybe I just felt like I wanted something big to do, like the "They Got Lost" thing.) Fine then, take down my comments on the bot request page and I'll take down some of the comments on this page. invisiblehippo97 17:29, 5 December 2014 (CST)
- Ok, I'm really not sure what part of this is unclear to you, but, as was just explained, changing links that already have redirects is completely unnecessary. If users click on a link for "How Can I Sing Like a Girl" it will already go to the page for "How Can I Sing Like a Girl?" That's what CapitalQ's comment here just said. Adding question marks to the link is 100% unnecessary and is, like most of your edits, taking up a whole lot of space on the Recent Changes page. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 05:31, 6 December 2014 (EST)
- But I've increased the number of known performances from 197 to 203. I thought that a change I make is acceptable as long as it increases the number of known performances for a song. Some of the changes that I have been doing don't fall under that category, but I have already been told to not do those and I have stopped. Are you going to say nothing about me changing the "Staying Alive"s to "Stayin' Alive"s and increasing the number of known performances from 16 to 18? I consider that change to be useful. Did you not notice that the only changes I made that involved "How Can I Sing Like a Girl?" were related to show pages as opposed to song theme pages? And besides, I haven't even been making as many changes this week as I was last week. Some days, I make more changes than others, yes, but if I do find a change that I feel should be made, then I will make it. If only we could clean up this comment history. I wouldn't want anyone to see us fighting. invisiblehippo97 12:04, 6 December 2014 (CST)
Show preview[edit]
One more thing that will make your edits not take up so much space on the Recent Changes page that it would be great if you could do: I've noticed you sometimes make edits to the same page several times in a row. Instead of that, you can use the "show preview" button (at the bottom, right next to "save page"), so if you've done anything wrong, you can catch it and just edit the page once. Thanks! --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 07:24, 1 December 2014 (EST)
- It may take me a while to get used to it and remember to do it, considering how much I've been doing it the other way! But thanks for the advice, guys! (Even when editing this comment, I forgot to do it.) Plus, I don't usually expect or assume myself to have made a mistake. Or, maybe I came to the page to make a certain kind of edit, but realized that more edits needed to be made. invisiblehippo97 06:44, 1 December 2014 (CST)

thanks for adding all those videos to show pages! great find :) Apollo (colloquia!) 20:43, 31 January 2015 (EST)
- Phew! Thanks to this talk page, I get goosebumps every time I see the phrase "New message from another user"! But hey, as long as you guys approve! invisiblehippo97 07:45, 31 January 2015 (CST)
images[edit]
hi. you've been adding a lot of images to pages. i just wanted to let you know that sometimes we intentionally don't use images on pages; this is usually because of low image quality. some of the less-pretty stuff we just keep around for the sake of preservation rather than display. to give two examples; this is a good image and is well-placed on the (swa)hd page; this is not a very nice picture nor does it contribute much to the flood page. please keep this in mind when adding images to pages. thanks. -- 17:47, 1 February 2015 (EST)
- What is your opinion of this? I wanted to get the file deleted because it was too similar to this, which is better anyway. Here are some show pages that I added the posters for that I think you should also delete (in no order): http://tmbw.net/wiki/Shows/1985-11-12, http://tmbw.net/wiki/Shows/1986-05-08, http://tmbw.net/wiki/Shows/1984-07-20, http://tmbw.net/wiki/Shows/1985-04-26, probably more. invisiblehippo97 05:25, 1 February 2015 (CST)
- the demo tape ad is a tough call. i believe we are keeping both because the old image is far larger. Apollo (colloquia!) 19:13, 1 February 2015 (EST)

Good catch, that's super weird! I took an old revision and started from there, I guess that's my only excuse. Thanks! -user:j2
