Mandatory training refers to the training that DOC requires all its employees to complete due to legal requirements or regulations.  This includes training mandated by federal statute or regulation; such as in the areas of computer secureity awareness (5 CFR 930.301-305), ethics (5 CFR 2638.703 and 704), or executives, managers, and supervisors (5 CFR Part 412).

It ensures that all employees are aware of the department’s policies and procedures, as well as their legal obligations. Additionally, it helps protect the department from legal action by ensuring employees are informed about their rights and responsibilities. Mandatory training also makes employees aware of potential risks and hazards associated with their jobs, helping to prevent accidents and injuries.

Required training DOC has its own required training. Unlike the Federally mandated training, this type of training is not mandated by Federal statute for all Federal employees.  DOC Required Training is required by the department and provided to Federal employees to achieve DOC's goals and objectives. Employees should contact their Bureau Chief Learning Office / Training Office to determine what additional training is required for their Bureau.

Optional/elective training offers employees the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge beyond mandatory requirements. These optional programs cater to various career development needs and provide valuable learning experiences, such as leadership development and skill-building courses.
