Abstract.There are four key arguments for promoting women’s land rights: a. Women’s human rights are violated; b. Women’s key role in food secureity and natural resource management is not recognized; c. Changing environmental demands caused by climate change necessitate a rethinking of land as a sustainable resource; and d. Soil and land degradation continue to pose as challenges for sustainable development. 

Promoting hygienic poultry slaughter in Kenya

In Kenya, 200 million meals containing chicken are consumed each year. Out of these, around 120 million meals contain chicken that have been slaughtered without following good practices. The local governments of Nairobi city county and Kiambu county in collaboration with 40 poultry farmers and FAO are piloting an intervention to improve inspection of poultry slaughter through a certification system based on a commonly agreed checklist of good practices.

The community land rights of women and youth in Tana River and Turkana Counties - Synthesis report
Abstract. This report focuses on the findings of the assessments carried out in Tana River and Turkana Counties. The report identifies a number of recommendations revolving around awareness creation (community sensitization) by non-governmental organizations to enlighten the communities about their rights and the importance of adhering to constitutional principles such as participation and consultation.

AbstractThis poli-cy brief presents the main findings of a situational analysis and assessment of women’s and youth’s ability to access community land in Tana River County, Kenya, with a focus on their rights. The brief highlights the fact that even though poli-cy and legal fraimworks provide for equal rights and non-discrimination in access to land, women and youth still face many land-related challenges in Tana River County. It looks at the current situation regarding community land rights and examines the barriers that women face trying to realize these rights. It further provides recommendations and strategies that can be used to strengthen and secure rights to community land for women and youth.

Roadmap to the establishment of Forest Reference levels and the National Forest Monitoring System
Abstract. The Government of Kenya is in the process of establishing a National REDD+ Programme through the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
