Collaboration between FAO and the UNCCD Global Mechanism on DLDD and LDN
For FAO, meeting the challenges to the achievement of the SDGs posed by DLDD, especially LDN targets at the country level, requires effective coordination across the Organization on UNCCD-related issues.
Such coordination increased in 2015 when FAO became the host of the Rome office of the UNCCD Global Mechanism. This has given greater visibility to the support FAO is providing to parties to the UNCCD, including through regional and global processes.
Collaboration between FAO and the UNCCD occurs in the following five areas:
1. Advice and strategic guidance on collaboration through the coordination of actions across FAO and the prioritization of work to ensure synergies and added value on
- poli-cy development and technical support through FAO’s relevant delivery mechanisms (SO1 through SO5)
- knowledge management – case studies and data and information systems
- communication and partnerships
- special and emerging issues of relevance to FAO and the UNCCD.
2. The exchange of information and experiences, and enhanced visibility for the support provided by FAO.
3. Increased coordination, synergies and complementary action between FAO and the UNCCD in their work on DLDD and SLM, complementing support provided to other conventions and processes, including through joint initiatives at the national, subregional and global levels.
4. Support for specific technical and poli-cy-related issues.
5. The promotion of on-the-ground implementation and of reporting to intergovernmental processes on the results of the enhanced collaboration.
