Visible & Infrared Imagery

The 0.47 µm, or “Blue” visible band on the GOES Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) provides nearly continuous daytime observations of dust, haze, smoke and clouds. At night, the 10.3 μm “clean” infrared window band provides continuous day/night cloud feature identification and classification, convective severe weather signatures, and hurricane intensity. Combining both bands' imagery shows the continuous progression of the weather.
