PUBLIC ADVISORY PRODUCTS FOR THE ATLANTIC...
EASTERN PACIFIC...AND CENTRAL PACIFIC BASINS:
EFFECTIVE MAY 15 2010...ISSUED ON JANUARY 27 2010
EFFECTIVE MAY 15 2010... BASED ON USER INPUTS...A FORMAT CHANGE
WILL BE MADE IN THE TROPICAL CYCLONE UPDATE /TCU/ PRODUCT. THIS
CHANGE WILL ALLOW EASIER PARSING AND DECODING OF INFORMATION BY
AUTOMATED GRAPHICS AND WEB APPLICATIONS.
WHEN A TCU IS ISSUED TO CHANGE THE STATUS OF A TROPICAL
CYCLONE...FOR EXAMPLE TROPICAL STORM TO A HURRICANE...OR TO
UPDATE STORM INTENSITY...LOCATION OR MOTION INFORMATION...THE
TCU WILL INCLUDE A STORM SUMMARY SECTION IDENTICAL TO THE STORM
SUMMARY SECTION FOUND IN THE TCP...AS DETAILED IN SCN 10-07.
A TCU MAY CONTINUE TO BE ISSUED WITHOUT A STORM SUMMARY SECTION
TO PROVIDE ADVANCE NOTICE THAT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO STORM
INFORMATION WILL BE CONVEYED SHORTLY...EITHER THROUGH A
SUBSEQUENT TCU OR THROUGH A SPECIAL ADVISORY.
A TCU ISSUED TO CONVEY CHANGES TO WATCHES OR WARNINGS WILL ALSO
NOT REQUIRE A STORM SUMMARY SECTION.

THERE ARE NO CHANGES TO THE AWIPS IDENTIFIERS AND WMO PRODUCT
HEADINGS FOR THE TCU PRODUCTS.
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER /NHC/ IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL
METEOROLOGICAL DECISIONS CONCERNING FORECASTING OF TROPICAL AND
SUBTROPICAL SYSTEMS FOR THE ATLANTIC OCEAN AND THE EASTERN
PACIFIC OCEAN...NORTH OF THE EQUATOR AND EAST OF 140 DEGREES
WEST LONGITUDE.
THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER /CPHC/ IS RESPONSIBLE FOR
ALL METEOROLOGICAL DECISIONS CONCERNING FORECASTING OF TROPICAL
AND SUBTROPICAL SYSTEMS FOR THE PACIFIC OCEAN NORTH OF THE
EQUATOR FROM 140 DEGREES WEST TO 180 DEGREES WEST LONGITUDE.
