The College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) is continually working to advance its fields and make meaningful contributions to the University of South Carolina's collective research impact.
HRSM faculty and graduate researchers work collaboratively with corporate, NGO and academic partners to identify the most important challenges facing our industries and provide pragmatic, science-based solutions to move businesses forward. A groundbreaking study published in Sports Economics Review has shed light on the impact of professional sporting events on local seasonal influenza mortality. Conducted by a team of researchers including University of South Carolina Department of Sport and Entertainment Management Associate Professor Nick Watanabe from the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, the study aimed to investigate the role played by spectator attendance at sporting events in the transmission of airborne viruses, particularly influenza. >> Read the full story
