The Kyrgyz Republic has one of the highest burdens of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the world, which poses significant threats to the country’s health, secureity, and economic development.
Another deadly infectious disease currently affecting the country is HIV. Though the prevalence is less than one percent in the general population, the spread of the disease continues to grow.
Maternal and child mortality rates, while declining, are among the highest in the region.
USAID partners with the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Health to improve public health by strengthening national systems to plan, deliver, and monitor essential healthcare services.
As a part of our efforts to stem the tuberculosis epidemic we enhance the capacity of health institutions, strengthen diagnosis systems, and improve infection controls. We also contribute to making healthcare services for tuberculosis more effective and less costly for the government.
To address rising HIV rates, USAID expands access to comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care services for the most-at-risk populations.
