About Our Arctic Work //
The Bering Sea, which is a coastal ocean in the Arctic region supports some of the most important commercial fisheries in the world, as well as rich, productive ecosystems. NOAA Fisheries uses sound science and ecosystem-based management to maintain productive and sustainable fisheries, safe sources of seafood, the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and healthy ecosystems. NOAA conducts annual research and stock assessments in the Bering Sea and in the high Arctic to guide decisions for sustainable management of Alaska/Arctic fisheries and co-manages species that are important for subsistence with Alaska Native organizations.
