Admitted Students

Congratulations! You’ve been admitted to the University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information. Here are your next steps so you can officially become a Wildcat and join CI:

Activate your linkblue account and UK email

Linkblue is a directory account (user ID and password) used when connecting to many campus-wide systems, including myUK, student email, Canvas, myUK GPS (Graduation Planning System) and iTunesU.

To activate your linkblue account, you will need your UK ID number and temporary passcode, which are located on your admission letter. Next, go to https://newstudent.uky.edu.

Apply for housing and the CI Connect Living Learning Program

First-year students are highly encouraged to live on campus. The most successful students do! Living on campus helps you adjust to the workload of college classes, allows you to connect with peers and make new friends and gives you easy access to campus services such as dining, recreation centers, tutoring services and more.

Living Learning Programs allow you to live with students that share your interest or major, and the CI Connect LLP is specifically for students in the College of Communication and Information. This engaging residential experience offers specialized programming, interactions with UK faculty and staff and a supportive community focused on student success.

Applying for housing and the CI Connect LLP does not bind you to attend the University of Kentucky, so be sure to submit your housing application early.

Register for Big Blue Nation Orientation

At Big Blue Nation Orientation, you’ll meet with an academic advisor and register for your first-semester classes. You’ll also become familiar with campus and meet other incoming Wildcats. You will register for Orientation in your myUK account.

For more information, visit the Big Blue Nation Orientation website.

Apply for financial aid and scholarships

UK awards financial aid and scholarships annually. To be considered for academic scholarships, be sure to apply for admission to UK and check out ScholarshipUniverse for internal and external scholarship opportunities. For need-based aid or student loans, you’ll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) here which is expected to open in December 2023. You will also have a personal UK Financial Aid Counselor that can answer questions about your full financial aid package.

Transfer credits to UK

If you’ve taken AP courses, IB courses or attended another university or college before coming to the University of Kentucky, you may be able to transfer some of those credits to UK. To see which UK courses AP or IB credits count toward, click here. If you've taken courses at another university or college and would like to see which UK courses your credits will count toward, go here.

Explore student organizations

One of the four pillars of academic excellence at the University of Kentucky is belonging and engagement. Your education is more than exams and essays; it is about belonging to a community that pushes you to grow and supports you through challenges. At the University of Kentucky, and within the College of Communication and Information, we focus on building relationships and becoming the best version of ourselves. There are numerous ways to get involved on campus, and there are many student organizations within CI that provide students with an uplifting community and a path to connect and engage with your academic interests.
