Wietske van Osch
Dr. Wietske van Osch received her Ph.D. in Economics (Information Systems) at the University of Amsterdam. She is currently an Associate Professor in Digital Transformation at HEC Montreal as well as an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University. She also holds a visiting appointment with the Department of Management - Information Systems Track at the IESEG School of Management in France.
Her doctoral dissertation focused on “Generative Collectives” and in particular the structural, cognitive and technological dimensions of online communities that result in enhanced innovation and won the 2014 Gerardine deSanctis Award from the Academy of Management OCIS Division, (ii) First Runner Up to the 2014 Academy of Management Academy-Wide Newman Award, and First Runner Up award for the ACM SIGMIS / AIS Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2012.
Her current research interests focus on managing teams, collaboration, innovation. In recent years, she has been interested in the role of enterprise social media (ESM) in team collaboration, knowledge management, boundary-spanning, and innovation with a focus on the design of generative systems and communities, both inside and outside organizations. According to SCOPUS, Wietske is the most frequently published author in the domain of ESM (see Figure 1 below). Her core research projects involve extensive industry collaborations for research on ESM, big data, and social media marketing with multinational companies including Steelcase and Leo Burnett.
Wietske has received a total of ~$1,000,000 in funding as a Principal Investigator by the Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) division of the National Science Foundation, including a CAREER grant in February 2018, the NSF’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.
Wietske has published over 50 articles in premier journals and conference proceedings, including Journal of Management Information Systems (Financial Times 50 Journal Rankings), Journal of Information Technology, Information and Management, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, International Conference on Information Systems, Americas Conference on Information Systems, European Conference on Information Systems, and the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. She has also received several Best Paper Awards, including from the Academy of Management, the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, and the AIS Special Interest Group on Human-Computer Interaction.
Wietske has taught over a dozen different courses on topics related to Information Systems, Management, and Statistics/Research Methods. She actively participates in the academic community serving as track chair at multiple conferences, Vice-President of Teaching Resources for the AIS’ SIGHCI, and Associate Editor for ICIS/ECIS. Her contribution to the academic community was recognized with a Best Reviewer Award from the Academy of Management as well as a nomination for Best Reviewer by the Journal of the Association for Information Systems. At Michigan State University, she has served on and chaired various committees, including search, undergraduate, Ph.D., curriculum revision, and various scholarship committees. She has also been the College Representative for the University Committee on Graduate Studies.
